How often should I test my pool water in Cairns?

In tropical conditions like Cairns, pool water should be checked at least once a week. Rain, heat, and pool usage quickly change chemical levels and can lead to algae if not monitored.

Why does my pool keep going green after rain?

Rain dilutes chlorine and stabiliser levels. When sanitiser drops too low, algae can grow rapidly — sometimes within 24–48 hours.

How long should I run my pool pump each day?

Most residential pools need 8–12 hours of circulation daily depending on size, weather, and usage.

How often should my pool be serviced?

Weekly servicing is recommended for most pools. Lower-use pools may be serviced fortnightly during cooler months.

What does a regular pool service include?

Brushing, vacuuming, emptying baskets, water testing, and chemical adjustment to maintain consistent water quality.

Why is my pool cloudy even though chlorine is normal?

Cloudy water is usually caused by filtration issues, fine debris, or incorrect pH — not always low chlorine.

Do I still need servicing if I have a pool cleaner?

Yes. Cleaners remove debris but do not balance chemicals or check equipment operation.

How long should a pool pump last?

Most pool pumps last 5–10 years depending on maintenance and run time.

Why is my pool losing suction?

Common causes include blocked baskets, dirty filters, air leaks, or worn seals rather than pump failure.

When should I clean my pool filter?

Typically every 1–3 months depending on debris load and pool usage.

Should I repair or replace pool equipment?

Many problems can be repaired. Replacement is recommended when reliability or efficiency becomes poor.

What chemicals does my pool actually need?

Most pools require sanitiser, pH control, and stabiliser. Additional chemicals depend on specific water conditions.

Why do I need stabiliser in Cairns?

Strong UV breaks down chlorine quickly. Stabiliser protects chlorine so it remains effective longer.

Are all pool salts the same?

No. Higher-purity salt produces less residue and helps chlorinators operate efficiently.

How do I know how much chemical to add?

Dosage should always be based on a water test and pool volume to avoid imbalance and wasted chemicals.

When does a pool need resurfacing?

Signs include rough surfaces, staining that won’t clean off, or recurring algae in specific areas.

Do energy-efficient pumps really save money?

Yes. Variable speed pumps significantly reduce electricity consumption compared to older pumps.

Can upgrading equipment reduce maintenance?

Modern filtration and chlorination systems improve water stability and reduce chemical demand.

Is it worth upgrading an older pool system?

Upgrades often reduce running costs and improve reliability compared to ongoing repairs.
